Day 1: Birding tour In Cusco: Huacarpay Lake
Enjoy world-class bird watching on a private tour to Huacarpay Lake with a local birding expert guide from Cusco. Then we will pick you up at 4:00 am from your hotel in Cusco and then head south of the city, before enjoying lunch at the lagoon. The Huacarpay bird-watching Lagoon is located 30 km southeast of the Cusco Inca Valley, at an altitude of 3,050 meters above sea level, in the Lucre district. The place is magnificent for its biodiversity of flora, fauna, and proximity to Cusco. 24 million years ago, the entire Cusco Valley was an immense-elevated lagoon, known as Morkill Lake. At some point, this lake drained and left extremely fertile land across the Cusco Inca Valley. However, there are still examples of the existence of the Morkill Lake: the Huacarpay Lake being a prime example.
Bird-watching in Huacarpay Lake: is a wetland protected by SERNANP as a Natural Heritage site of the region for its scenic value and its importance in the ecosystem of the southern Cusco Valley for various species of birds of Peru.
The Marbled Ginger Anas flavorists, Marbled Colorado cinnamon teal and the Marbled Puna Teal, Malvasia Reddish Oxyurid ferrugineol, and other beautiful birds associated with wetlands can be found here. Then ass well as the Sapling grebe white-tufted grebe, Whitey grebe Podiceps occipitalis and the Andean Coot Fulica ardesiaca, Rascón Gallineta, etc. Finally In the afternoon we will return to Cusco, where we end our bird-watching tour.
