Classic Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu 5-Days /4-Nights.
The Classic Salkantay trail to Machu Picchu, 5- day/4- nights is for those on a little more budget who still want to experience the full diversity of the Peruvian Andes landscape and nature. Enjoy the Salkantay sunrise and sunset every morning in the mountains on this trek.
You can see the beautiful Lakes, wildlife in the cloud forest, and the Coffee experience. The Classic Salkantay trail to Machu Picchu culminates with a guided tour.

Day 1: City of Cusco – Mollepata – Humantay Lagoon – Soraypampa.
After pick up from the hotel (4:00 a.m. approx.), we will ride in our private van towards the town of Mollepata for approximately 2.5 hours. Next arrival at this town, we will have time to enjoy breakfast before continuing another hour in the van until Challacancha, where we will start our trek.
Then, we will walk for 3 hours alongside the water channel until we reach the Soraypampa camp, where we will have our organic lunch.
Then we enjoy clean water to drink and fill our water bottles, all with a panoramic view of the Salkantay Glacier Salkantay and Humantay mountains, and others.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Humantay Lagoon (4200 masl), where our guide will lead a Pachamama kintu, a Type of offering to connect with Pachamama – Mother Earth. The offering is to the Salkantay and Humantay mountains, and in exchange for these gifts, we hope they offer us protection. We finally finish with the descent to the Soraypampa camp 3850 m, where we will have tea time, dinner, and a well-deserved rest.
Day 2: Soraypampa-Chaullay.
After a strengthening breakfast, we will have clean water to fill our water bottles. First, we start our trek to the Salkantay pass, located at 4,620m, the highest point of the Salkantay trail. On the way to the Abra Salkantay pass, it is possible to see llamas, alpacas, and birds such as the Salkantay condor. We will then have a short rest to appreciate the wonder of the mountains that make up the Andes Mountain range.
Along the hike, we will find stone mounds called Apachetas, and our guide will explain the Salkantay Pass and Salkantay trail.
Then we will have a small ceremony to Pacha Mama Mother Nature, To take care of and protect us during the classic Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu.
Then, we will descend for approximately 4 hours to the Wayracmachay lunch point, by the edge of the Amazon jungle in the Cusco region. After lunch, we will continue walking for approximately 3 hours to Chaullay campsite. On the way, we will appreciate hummingbirds and other species of birds, small mammals, and reptiles, and then we have tea time and dinner before spending the night in Chaullay.
Day 3: Chaullay – la playa (Sawayaco).
After our delicious breakfast, we will fill our bottles with clean water. Then, we will leave Chaullay, at 6:am. Then we start to walk to the tropical jungle. We will pass through narrow trails and waterfalls with abundant flora and fauna of the tropical jungle.
Then is possible to see the Peruvian Hummingbirds and local family farms where you will taste the tropical fruit granadilla. After an organic lunch, we have an organic coffee tour and tasting. Optionally, in the afternoon you may visit the thermal baths (at an additional cost), which will take around 2 hours, then at the campsite, we will have tea time and dinner.
Day 4: Sahuayaco playa – Inca Trail Llaqta Pata – Hydroelectric- Machupicchu town.
After 5:00 am. Wake up with tea and breakfast with tropical fruits. We fill the water bottles with clean water. Then we begin to walk through the tropical forest area and coffee plantations. We arrive at the archaeological center of Llactapata and enjoy the panoramic view of Machu Picchu Incan city, Huayna Picchu mountain, Huchuy Machu Picchu ruins and valleys, and ravines, Machu Picchu Incan city.
Then we continue with a descent to the Hydroelectric dam, which should take around 4 hours, where we will have our lunch, and then we walk to the beautiful cloud forest along the river to Machu Picchu town.
Where we overnight in the hotel, have dinner, and have an explanation for the Machu Picchu tour.
Day 5: Machupicchu Aguas Calientes – Tour to Machu Picchu, one of the 7 wonders of the world – return to Cusco.
Machupicchu Day. You will explore Machu Picchu ruins on a private tour. The Machu Picchu sanctuary is open from 6:00 am. For this activity, we have breakfast in our hotel. Then we recommend you take the bus from Aguas Calientes town. Up to Machu Picchu entrance. Another option is to walk uphill for an hour and a half until you reach the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. You will enter the entrance of Machu Picchu with your tour guide with entrance tickets to Machu Picchu ruins and a personal passport. Once we enter Machu Picchu ruins, we have a 2:30-hour guided Machupicchu Tour.
Admire the architecture, the Inca hydraulic engineering, and significant sites of the archaeological center. Return from Machu Picchu. And enjoy lunch in one of the good restaurants in Machu Picchu. Then go to the train station within 30 minutes before your train departure.

- Thermal underwear can be worn in a sleeping bag or under cold conditions.
- Gloves or mittens, scarf, wool socks, woolen hat for cold nights
- T-shirts and trekking pants that zip off to short pants for comfort.
- Flashlight, head torch, and extra batteries.
- Camera extra batteries and binoculars.
- Wear a hat with a broad visor to keep the sun off your face.
- Sunscreen and sunglasses.
- Personal medical kit, insect repellent.
- Rain Gear: a good rain jacket.
