Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Salkantay Andean Cabins
On the first day of the 5-Day Salkantay Trek with Peruvian Culture Tours, your journey begins with an early morning private pick-up from your hotel in Cusco around 5:00 a.m., followed by a scenic 3-hour drive to Mollepata, where you will enjoy a nourishing breakfast. A short drive then takes you to Soraypampa (3,800 m), the starting point of your hike along ancient Andean paths. The highlight of the day is a rewarding 2-hour ascent to the breathtaking Humantay Lake (4,200 m), where you can take in the spectacular turquoise waters surrounded by towering peaks.
Afterward, continue toward your campsite for 2hours near Salkantaypampa, set at the base of the majestic Salkantay Mountain, where a freshly prepared lunch by our chef awaits. The afternoon is dedicated to rest and acclimatization, allowing you to fully enjoy the high-altitude environment before a delicious dinner and a peaceful evening in comfortable Andean cabins, with stunning views of Salkantay Mountain and a night sky illuminated by millions of stars.

Day 2: Salkantay Andean Cabins – Salkantay Pass – Chaullay Andean Cabins.
The Challenge Salkantay Pass day begins at 5:00 a.m. with a wake-up call and a warm cup of coca tea to support altitude acclimatization; shortly after, at 5:30 a.m., you’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared by our professional chef and dedicated team, featuring pancakes, fresh fruit salad, bread, boiled eggs, coffee, milk, and hot chocolate.
Then, at 6:00 a.m., you set out on the most demanding section of the trek: a steady 4-hour ascent to Salkantay Pass (4,600 m / 15,091 ft). Along the way, you’ll pause near Soyrococha Lake to enjoy snacks while admiring breathtaking snow-capped peaks and, if fortunate, spotting wildlife such as chinchillas, condors, llamas, and alpacas. Upon reaching the pass, you’ll have time to take photos and appreciate the majesty of Salkantay Mountain, while your expert guide explains its sacred importance in Andean culture. Afterward, you descend for about 2 hours to enjoy a well-deserved lunch prepared by your trekking team, and then continue with a 3-hour hike toward Chaullay, gradually entering the lush cloud forest.
As the scenery changes, the climate becomes warmer and more vibrant, revealing rich biodiversity including orchids, butterflies, birds, and dense vegetation. Finally, upon arrival at the campsite, you can relax with afternoon tea, enjoy a delicious dinner, and receive a final briefing from your guide before settling into comfortable Andean cabins for the night.

Day 3: Chaullay – la Playa -Lucmabamba- Tropical Cabins.
We begin the day with a delicious breakfast accompanied by a warm cup of coca tea before setting out on a 15 km hike along a mostly flat trail through the lush jungle. As we progress, the route passes local family homes, small waterfalls, rivers, and vibrant fruit farms, with several stops along the way to taste fresh, locally grown fruit directly from the source.
Eventually, we arrive at Playa, where private transport takes us to Lucmabamba for a well-deserved lunch. Afterward, we enjoy an insightful coffee tour nearby, where you will learn about the traditional coffee-making process and sample freshly roasted Peruvian coffee. Once the experience concludes, we head to our cabins to relax and unwind, with an optional visit to nearby hot springs for those who wish to rest and recover after the hike. Finally, at 6:00 p.m., we gather for tea , followed by a delicious dinner and a detailed briefing from your guide about the next day’s adventure.

Day 4: Lucmabamba – Inca Trail Llaqta Pata – Hydroelectric- Aguas calientes
We begin the day at 5:00 a.m. with a warm cup of local tea, followed by a nourishing breakfast at 5:30 a.m., and by 6:00 a.m, we set out on our hike along the Inca Trail toward Llactapata, gradually ascending through the breathtaking landscapes of the cloud forest. As we continue, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic until we reach Llactapata, where we are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of Machu Picchu from a unique vantage point; here, our official guide provides an insightful explanation of the Llactapata Inca Trail and its historical and cultural significance. After this enriching visit, we descend steadily toward the Hydroelectric lunch point, where a freshly prepared meal awaits.
Subsequently, we continue with a mostly flat 10 km hike of approximately 3 hours toward Aguas Calientes, a scenic route offering the chance to observe exotic bird species such as toucans, parrots, Andean motmots, flycatchers, green jays, woodpeckers, and the iconic cock-of-the-rock. Finally, upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we check into our hotel to rest and recover; in the evening, we gather for dinner and then receive a detailed briefing from our guide about the next day’s adventure.

Day 5: Explore Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
Today, you will explore Machu Picchu . We will begin the day with breakfast at 6:00am at your hotel in Aguas Calientes, after which you may take the 35-minute bus ride up to the entrance of Machu Picchu, or alternatively, enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour uphill walk through beautiful mountain landscapes. Upon arrival, you will enter the citadel with your professional guide, presenting your entrance ticket and original passport, as both are required for access.
Inside, you will enjoy a 3-hour guided tour exploring the impressive Inca architecture, hydraulic engineering systems, temples, and sacred sectors that make Machu Picchu one of the world’s greatest wonders. After the visit, you will return by bus to Aguas Calientes, where you can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the train station at least 30 minutes prior to departure. You will then take the train for approximately 2 hours back to Ollantaytambo, where our team will meet you and provide private transportation for a 2-hour drive back to your hotel in Cusco, concluding your unforgettable Machu Picchu experience.
