Choquequirao trek takes us to an Inca city in the mountains, the largest of the Inca civilization. Choquequirao is a larger Inca city than Machu Picchu and has only a fraction of the visitors. In these 8 days, you will have the experience of knowing the ruins of Choquequirao, which will allow you to live a unique experience on the Choquequirao trek.

Day 01:  Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chikiska – Santa Rosa

Our excursion will start very early, we will pick you up from your hotel in our private transport with your professional tour guide around 4.00 am, to start the 4-hour trip to Capuliyuc. On the way, we will enjoy the wonderful Limatambo Canyon and the amazing Apu Salkantay snow-capped mountain, finally arriving at Capuliyuc starting point.

Our team of porters and horses will be in charge of carrying all our camping equipment and the necessary food for the entire trip. We start our excursion with a descent for around 3 hours until we reach the Chikiska lunch point 2,050 m, where we will share our lunch with views of the Apurimac valley, where in the distance we will see the Padreyoc and Wayna Cachora snow-capped mountains.

After lunch, we descend to the Apurimac River and then an ascent to the campsite where we will spend the night, te time, and dinner in Santa Rosa. Where the weather becomes noticeably warmer, being part of the rainforest.

Day 02: Santa Rosa – Marampata – Choquequirao

This day is considered challenging, but exciting at the same time. After waking up with a cup of Te we will enjoy a delicious fortifying breakfast. We will also have fruit snacks for the walk, boiled water for our way to begin the ascent along a zigzagging path with a duration of approximately 3 hours when we will be able to appreciate the diversity of flora, medicinal plants, flowers, the fauna of the Andean condor and other wild animals until we reach Marampata where we can rest there and have our first view of the Inca Archaeological site of Choquequirao.

Then we will continue walking for 1 hour and a half until we reach the lunch point near the Inca site of Choquequirao. Then we will enjoy a well-deserved organic lunch. In the afternoon our guide will guide you through different sectors such as the Inka house, the llama sector, the terraces, the temples, and the urban area, and you will enjoy the wonderful views of the Apurímac canyon at sunset. It is also possible to see condors flying over the mountains. We will camp near the Inca site of Choquequirao where our second night of rest will be spent enjoying dinner.

Day 03: Choquequirao – Rio Blanco – Maizal

After our breakfast, we will start our hike with an ascent to Choquequirao Pass (3170 masl), where we will have an incredible view of mountains from the top, and we will say goodbye to the Inca site of Choquequirao and its beautiful valleys rich in flora and fauna.
Then we will continue our descent to the Blanco River (1900 masl), where we will enjoy our snack and pleasant rest, we will enjoy the panorama of the landscape and the crystal clear waters of the Blanco River, then we will ascend until we reach the Maizal camp.
Maizal is located at an altitude of 3,000 masl, Choquequirao Trek is challenging with complete explorations of flora, fauna, birds such as hummingbirds, tanagers, and toucans on the Choquequirao trek to Machupicchu.

Day 04: Maizal – Yanama

After a hearty breakfast, we will leave the Maizal camp behind, continuing with a final climb through the old silver mines of La Victoria until we reach the San Juan pass at 4150 meters above sea level.
At this point, we will have a short break to appreciate the spectacular views of the Vilcabamba mountain range, and we will be able to taste our snacks.
Then we will continue along a narrow path full of flora and fauna towards the town of Yanama, here we will taste our organic lunch, and then rest. In the afternoon we will have a bird watching tour and free afternoon, and dinner.

Day 05: Yanama – Totora – Collpampa

Wake-up call with a cup of tea, we have a fortifying breakfast of fruits and cereals in the morning, we will say goodbye to the muleteers, and then we will begin to ascend. On the way, we will pass through Mariano Llamocca, the highest pass of the trek (4643 masl), from where you can see the second-highest mountain in Cusco, the Apu Salkantay glacier.
Finally, we will descend to enjoy the beautiful panoramic view until we reach the Totora community, where we will taste our delicious lunch. In the afternoon, we will continue with the trek to the CollPampa campsite.

Day 06: Collpampa –Lucumabamba

We will wake up with a tea, then we will have a fortifying breakfast, boiled water to fill water bottles, to begin our walk in a tropical environment with mosquitoes and hot weather, with a descent until we reach one of the waterfalls. We will also enjoy photos and the diversity of tropical flora and fauna, we will taste tropical fruits on our walk to Sahuayaco beach, we will walk through some tea plantations, organic coffee, granadilla plantations, jass avocado, bananas, papaya, we will pass through valleys and ravines and streams arriving at the point of our Camp in Sahuayoco beach where we will enjoy our organic lunch, and we will have the afternoon free to rest. Optional afternoon visits to the medicinal hot springs in Cocal Mayo, book in advance with us at our office.

Day 07: Lucumabamba – Llactapata – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes

We will wake you up with tea in the morning. After breakfast, we will begin our trek to Llactapata. Gradually, Will ascend in zigzag through a narrow Inca trail until reaching the top of a mountain. We will also enjoy beautiful flora and fauna on our hike to Llactapata. Which will take us to an archaeological center called Llactapata.
From llactapata, we can see the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, and enjoy the beautiful view. And, the fields. We will descend until we reach Aomabamba, where we have our delicious lunch. Then, we will walk for 25 minutes to board the hydroelectric train that will take us to Aguas Calientes town, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 08: Machu Picchu Tour—Back to Cusco

Explore Machu Picchu on day 8, one of the 7 Wonders of The World. The Machu Picchu sanctuary is open from 6:00 am. We will start with breakfast at our hotel, and our tour guide will explain the restrictions of Machu Picchu ruins. We will take the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu Park, and then we need to have entrance tickets to Machu Picchu and a personal passport. Once we enter the Inca city of Machupicchu, we have a 3-hour Guide to Machu Picchu ruins.

Admire the architecture of the Incas, hydraulic, engineering, and Important sites of the archaeological center. Return from Machu Picchu ruins to Aguas Calientes town and enjoy your lunch in one of the good restaurants in Machu Picchu town. Make sure you arrive at the train station 30 minutes early. To board the return train, our staff will wait for you with the transport at the Ollantaytambo station and drop you at your hotel in Cusco.
