If you’re thinking of doing any kind of tour in Peru you need to do it with Peruvian Culture Tours! My group and I did the Condor Chonta day tour and the Incan Jungle Trek. Both of these trips were fantastic all due to our wonderful tour guide David and the team at Peruvian Culture Tours! David is the best tour guide you could ask for. His enthusiasm and passion for Incan history and Peru are obvious and made our trip one we’ll never forget! I really think that I learned more with him as our guide than I would from other guides. He’s a local and his love of the land really increases your appreciation of Peru and its history. He is able to point out all the plants and animals along the journey (and makes sure you get to try some delicious fruits). This company makes sure that their tours benefit the small communities living in the Andes and the stray dogs in Cusco. As a tourist, it feels great knowing your money is going to a good cause. Peruvian Culture Tours makes sure you don’t have to worry about a single thing during your tour. All the food we had was delicious and they made sure we’d never be hungry! On the Incan jungle trek you get to do multiple activities like white water rafting, hiking, and biking. I loved the variety of activities and each was so fun! They made sure everything went smoothly, from luggage transport to timing. They really go the extra mile to make sure you have a good experience. They even picked us up from the train station after our tour had technically ended! I really can’t recommend this tour company enough. The best way to see Peru!
This tour, our guide David, and the company are amazing!! After meeting other travelers and hearing about their experiences, I'm convinced this was the best way to see Peru. You'll do a wide variety of activities that are both physical and not; we journeyed from Cusco to Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, and finally Aguas Calientes by biking and hiking through the mountains. We tasted (and roasted!) coffee grown in the cloud forest, picked mandarins and passionfruit off the trees along the Inca trail, listened to our tour guide's stories/info and asked all of our burning questions, and ate many delicious meals. [BTW, I was amazed at how little I had to worry about food along the way... there were plenty of stands selling fruit and snacks, and our tour guide had booked our meals in advance so we ate at restaurants along the journey with almost no wait time, which was perfect since we were starving from the hikes! Also, I am vegetarian and the tour company made sure every place we ate at during the tour was able to accommodate.] The physical activity was intense at times but David made sure that we were comfortable and was able to cater to our ability and how we were feeling that day (especially given the altitude.) Longer hikes were broken up with plenty of stops for rest, as well as activities like coffee tasting. David himself is wonderful. He is kind, knowledgeable, patient, and funny. He’s worked in tourism since 2011 and you can definitely tell… not only did he have extensive knowledge about flora & fauna in Peru and Incan culture/history, but he managed our small group very well. He told us everything we needed to know the night before each day of the tour, and had good tips for things like altitude sickness. Felt really safe with him guiding my friends and I. Also, my birthday fell on the last day of our tour and he bought us a cake to celebrate!! In all, this tour was an unforgettable experience. You are missing out if you do not see Peru through this company! I can’t wait to come back. P.S.: If you’re someone who cares about ethical tourism, this is the company to go with. Machu Pichu
Amazing experience. We went to Machu Pichu with David as part of a larger tour with Peruvian Culture Tours. David took care of everything and was brimming with knowledge of the Incans and the significance of Machu Pichu. Amazing experience rediscovering my ancestral roots!
One of the 7 wonders of the world, it was an amazing tour with David as he explained all of the Inca history and how Machu Picchu began! The whole process was seamless and going early helped to have more time to explore and see the beautiful llamas. Amazing day, knowledgeable guide!
We loved the day in Machu Picchu with David! He was very knowledgeable, well-prepared and really friendly. Him and his company organised the entire day-trip for us and it flowed incredibly well, going to the extent of taking us back to our hotel after Inca Rail dropped us off in Cusco. He made sure to emphasize how it was our tour and tailored the day to our choices. We even took a bit longer in Machu Picchu then we had planned but not once did we feel rushed by David. I can only thank David and his wife for organising such an incredible trip for us. Booking with David is an incredible experience and you will also be helping a local family prosper and grow their small business. We also loved to hear about all the work he does for the dogs in his community. Salkantay 5 day hike and Cusco 1/2 day tour highly recommend.
David from Peruvian culture tours organised my Salkantay 5 day hike extremely well. I did not have to worry about a thing. David had included in the cost hotel booking , bus and train tickets and my pre purchased Machu Picchu ticket. Which many travellers did not have on this hike which added stress to the last days of this trip. David and his wife were very helpful and extremely kind. Peruvian Culture Tours with David is without a doubt the absolute best way to do Salkantay.
No question Peruvian Culture Tours with David is the way to do Salkantay. His business is just starting to take off and there may not be a ton of reviews, but don't let that distract from the fact that David (and PCT) is an awesome professional. I met him on an Amazon expedition before he started Peruvian Culture Tours and was blown away by his genuine passion for his country and its beautiful peoples, cultures, landscapes, and nature. When my friend visited, there was no doubt in my mind we should hike the Salkantay trail with David. And man was our trust in David rewarded. Firstly, the Salkantay trail is beautiful start to finish. I've done a decent amount of backpacking/hiking, and I've never done a trail so diverse and beautiful. From the base of Salkantay to the depths of the Andean cloud forest, there was never a dull sight. And David is the perfect person to guide you and unpack everything to be experienced at every point in the trail. He knows the ins and outs of the trail, as he grew up in a small town near Cusco. He perfectly structured the days so that we were never overwhelmed with the day's route nor bored with only a small walk on any given day. He also has assembled a great family team to take care of all the logistics. Every meal was hot and fresh cooked, the tents were comfortable, and most of your gear is carried by donkey or bus to the next campsite, allowing you to enjoy the trail with minimal gear. Additionally, the price is better than any other company I could find. David is also a true expert in everything related to Salkantay. He can identify every plant and animal encountered over the various terrain. He knows the comprehensive history of the Inca Empire and Quechua people. He also has extensive knowledge of the geography and geology of the area, both past and present. Whatever you're interested in, David can cover it extensively. Finally, David lives his life with an ethical conviction that is deeply admirable. He runs a true family operation where profits help the family, not get funneled into the pockets of rich owners of the larger operations in the area. He also contributes a portion of revenue to his ongoing effort to improve the lives of the large population of stray dogs (big problem in Peru) living in and around Cusco. Bottom line - choosing Peruvian Culture Tours with David is the right decision for every possible reason.
