Day 1: Journey From Cusco to the Manu Cloud Forest – Manu Biological Station Lodge
Early in the morning, at 6:00 a.m, Peruvian Culture Tours we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and begin a scenic drive through the majestic Andes. First, we will stop at Huancarani to explore the funeral towers of Ninamarca, an ancient pre-Inca burial site of the Lupaca culture, where our expert guide will share valuable historical insights.
Afterward, we will continue to the charming town of Paucartambo, known for its rich traditions and colonial character. Following a brief visit to its historic church, we will proceed to the entrance of Manu National Park, one of South America’s most biodiverse protected areas.
From there, we will gradually descend into the lush cloud forest. Along the way, we will make strategic stops for wildlife observation and short walks to fully appreciate the surroundings. With favorable conditions, you may spot toucans, quetzals, the iconic Cock of the Rock, and playful woolly and capuchin monkeys.
At midday, we will enjoy a freshly prepared lunch in the heart of nature. Finally, after additional wildlife sightings, we will arrive at the lodge around 5:30 p.m., where you will enjoy dinner and spend a peaceful evening immersed in the enchanting sounds of the Amazon rainforest.
Day 2: Hummingbird Sanctuary – Explore Machuwasy Lake
We begin the day at 6:30 a.m. with a delicious breakfast. Then, we set out on a scenic two-hour drive toward Atalaya Port, carefully observing birds along the way. En route, we will also visit a traditional coca plantation and a charming hummingbird sanctuary, enriching our cultural and natural experience.
Afterward, upon reaching Atalaya Port, we will board our motorboat and travel approximately 40 minutes downstream along the Alto Madre de Dios River, surrounded by lush Amazonian landscapes. Once at the lodge, a freshly prepared lunch will be served, allowing you to relax and fully embrace the rainforest atmosphere.
Later in the afternoon, we will continue to the beautiful Machuwasy Lake, where we will explore its tranquil waters by traditional wooden canoe. This peaceful excursion offers excellent opportunities to observe colorful birdlife, including hoatzins, and, with some luck, capybaras. Finally, as night falls, you may choose to join an optional night walk, revealing the fascinating and mysterious nocturnal world of the jungle.

Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick – A Scenic Journey Back to Cusco
Very early in the morning, at 5:00 a.m., we will take a short 10-minute boat ride to the spectacular Parrot Clay Lick, one of the rainforest’s most captivating natural displays. As the first rays of sunlight filter through the canopy, dozens of vibrantly colored parrots, macaws, and parakeets gather along the mineral-rich clay wall, creating an unforgettable and breathtaking scene.
Afterward, we will return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast, peacefully surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. Once refreshed, we will board our boat and head back to Atalaya Port, where our overland journey to Cusco begins.
Along the way, we will once again pass through the enchanting cloud forest, offering a final opportunity to admire the lush scenery and, with some luck, spot monkeys or exotic birds. Gradually, as we ascend the winding mountain roads, the landscape transforms from tropical rainforest to Andean highlands. Finally, after enjoying lunch en route, we will continue driving back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 6:00 p.m.

- A fleece and a windbreaker are advisable for cool evenings.
- Light rain gear (poncho) for sudden downpours
- Waterproof hiking boots
- Sneakers (covered shoes) or other low-heeled walking shoes are essential.
- A light hat and suntan lotion
- Insect repellent is a must, preferably with DEET.
