The Classic Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu (5 days/4 nights) is ideal for those on a slightly tighter budget who still want to experience the full diversity of the Peruvian Andes landscape and nature.Throughout this trek, you will enjoy the breathtaking Salkantay sunrises and sunsets each morning in the mountains.
Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to see beautiful lakes, spot wildlife in the cloud forest, and take part in a unique coffee experience.Finally, the Classic Salkantay trail to Machu Picchu culminates with a guided tour of this world renowned archaeological site.

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Humantay Lagoon – Salkantaypampa 4200.
Morning: We will pick you up from the hotel at approximately 4:00 AM. Afterward, we will travel in our private van towards the town of Mollepata, which will take about 2.5 hours. Once we arrive, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast. Following that, we will continue our journey for another hour in the van until we reach Soraypampa.
Activities: Upon arrival at Soraypampa, we will first meet our staff, including the chef and porters. Then, we will begin our trek from Soraypampa to Humantay Lagoon, located at 4,200 meters, for a 2-hour hike. Once we reach the lagoon, we will have the opportunity to explore the stunning lake. Afterward, we will participate in a “history time” session to learn about the area. Following this, we will descend back to Soraypampa to enjoy a delicious lunch.
LUNCH: In Soraypampa, at 3,850 meters, we will have lunch while taking in the panoramic views of the Salkantay Glacier, Humantay Mountain, and other nearby peaks. After lunch, in the afternoon, we will continue our trek towards Salkantay Pampa, which will take about 1 hour.
Overnight: We will spend the night at Salkantay Pampa, where we will enjoy tea time and a delicious dinner, followed by a well-deserved rest.
Day 2: Salkantay pampa-Chaullay camping site.
Morning: Early in the morning, we will receive a wake-up call with coca tea After that, we will enjoy a hearty breakfast to start the day.
Activities: Next, we begin our trek to the Salkantay Pass, located at 4,620 meters — the highest point of the Salkantay trail. Along the way to the Abra Salkantay, it will be possible to spot llamas, alpacas, and condors. Then, we will take a short rest at Abra Salkantay to appreciate the stunning mountain views. Afterward, we will hike down for approximately 2 hours to reach the lunch point.
Lunch: We will continue descending for another 2 hours to reach the Huayra Machay lunch point. During this portion of the hike, we will have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding mountains.After lunch, we will resume our walk for 3 more hours to the Chaullay campsite. Along the way, we will pass through the cloud forest, where we may spot hummingbirds and other species of animals.
Overnight: In the evening, we will overnight in the Chaullay community After settling in, we will enjoy a relaxing tea time followed by a delicious dinner.
Day 3: Chaullay – la playa (Sawayaco).
BREAKFAST: After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will fill our bottles with clean water.Then, at 6:00 AM, we will begin our trek into the tropical jungle. Along the way, we will pass through narrow trails and encounter waterfalls, all while surrounded by rich flora and fauna.
As we continue, it will be possible to spot Peruvian birds and see local farming lands.We will then make a stop to taste the tropical fruit, granadilla. Following this, we will proceed to the lunch point.
LUNCH: In Sahuayaco, we will enjoy a delicious, organic lunch. Afterward, we will have the opportunity to participate in an organic coffee experience.
AFTERNOON (OPTIONAL): In the afternoon, you have the option to visit the Cocalmayo hot springs (for an additional charge). To get there, we will take a short car ride, arriving at the hot springs where we will have an hour to relax and enjoy the natural thermal waters.Afterward, we will return to the campsite to have tea and dinner.
Day 4: Sahuayaco playa – Inca Trail Llaqta Pata – Hydroelectric- Machupicchu town.
BREAKFAST: Wake up at 5:00 AM with a refreshing cup of coca tea,Then, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast featuring tropical fruits. Afterward, we begin our walk through the tropical forest, passing by coffee plantations.Along the way, we will arrive at the archaeological center of Llactapata, where we can take in the breathtaking panoramic view of the Machu Picchu Incan city. Additionally, we will have the chance to spot native birds of the area, such as toucans, which are the national birds of Peru. Following this, we will descend to the lunch point.
LUNCH: In Aomabamba, we will have a delicious and well-deserved lunch. Afterward, we will continue our descent towards the Hydroelectric dam From there, we will walk alongside the river toward Machu Picchu town, Aguas Calientes.
OVERNIGHT: In the evening, we will check in to our hotel in Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night.Later, we will have a delicious dinner, followed by a briefing about the upcoming Machu Picchu tour.
Day 5: Machupicchu Aguas Calientes – Tour to Machu Picchu, one of the 7 wonders of the world – return to Cusco.
BREAKFAST: First, we will have breakfast at the hotel.Afterward, we recommend you take the bus from Aguas Calientes town.
BUS TO MACHU PICCHU: Next, we will board a bus for a 35-minute ride up to the Machu Picchu entrance.
WALK UP TO MACHU PICCHU ENTRANCE: Alternatively, you may choose to walk uphill for about an hour and a half, during which you will gradually ascend towards the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Along the way, you can enjoy the stunning scenery before you reach your destination
MACHU PICCHU TOUR: Upon arrival, we will enter the Machu Picchu ruins with your tour guide, who will have your entrance tickets and personal passport. Once inside, enjoy a 2.5-hour guided tour of the site. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to admire the impressive architecture, Inca hydraulic engineering, and other significant sites within the archaeological center.
RETURN FROM MACHU PICCHU: After the tour, we will head back from Machu Picchu.
LUNCH: Then, enjoy lunch at one of the excellent restaurants near Machu Picchu. Following lunch, make your way to the train station, ensuring that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your train departure.

- Thermal underwear can be worn in a sleeping bag or under cold conditions.
- Gloves or mittens, scarf, wool socks, woolen hat for cold nights
- T-shirts and trekking pants that zip off to short pants for comfort.
- Flashlight, head torch, and extra batteries.

- Wear a hat with a broad visor to keep the sun off your face.
- Sunscreen and sunglasses.

- Rain Gear: a good rain jacket.
